CCJP JOINS THE MLS BATTLE

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) has endorsed the Malawi Law Society demonstrations slated for Thursday to force the government to expedite the enactment of the Judicial Reform Bills.

A statement signed by CCJP National Coordinator, Boniface Chibwana, underscores the need for urgency in judicial reforms to address corruption, partisanship, and impunity within the judicial system.

The statement further says some judges and magistrates are accountable to no one, and the Judiciary does not discipline them hence the need for the enactment of the bills.

The legal practitioners want to hold the executive accountable due to continued delays in taking to Parliament the Judicial Service Administration Bill 2024 (JSA), the Constitutional (Amendment) Bill 2024, and the Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

Furthermore, the statement says the bills are critical to restoring public trust in the country’s judicial system citing that a solid legal system is the backbone of any country longing to eliminate corruption and promote the rule of law.

Meanwhile, CCJP urges all Malawians, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and concerned citizens to join the call for action.

Yetu FM understands the National Advocacy Platform (NAP) also expressed its support of the society’s decision to hold protests on the same.
