MULUZI URGES PARTY FOLLOWERS TO EMBRACE UNITY AMIDST INTERPARTY TENSIONS

United Democratic Front (UDF) patron who is also the former president of the country Dr. Bakili Muluzi has condemned the behavior portrayed by some party members barring MCP from attending the party’s elective convention.

Addressing delegates at the party’s elective Indaba in the commercial city of Blantyre, COMESA hall on Wednesday, Muluzi told delegates that the party invited all parties in the country to attend the convention because they believe in solidarity despite differences in political affiliations.

“So I felt sorry when I heard that some of you thought organizers of the convention were selling the party by inviting the Malawi Congress Party, we are one, that is why we invited all parties in the country,” said Muluzi.

He says it is imperative to be in good relationship with all parties including MCP because UDF is the core inventor of democracy hence the need to practice it.

He then asked delegates at the convention to elect good leaders that would help the party to take the government in next year’s general elections.

Party president Lilian Patel who will be handing over the presidency to Atupele Muluzi at the convention thanked members for their cooperation during her time and has asked members to continue with the same spirit.

In her remarks, the chairperson of the organizing committee Aisha Mambo thanked party members for contributing to the colorful event which will run for 2 days.
