LEAST DEVELOPED COUNTRIES URGED TO LOBBY FOR CLIMATE FINANCING

An Environmental rights activist Mathews Malata has described the Least Developed Countries – LCDs Strategy and Ministerial Meetings slated for 26 to 28 August 2024 in Lilongwe, as key in advocating for sustainable climate financing.

Malata said with a unified voice, LDCs should continue advocating for climate financing in the form of grants and loans.

“The meeting provides a platform where least developed countries should lobby for climate financing”. Malata said

“the meeting is timely as the world is getting set for COP 29 slated for November this year” Malata added.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the LDC Group Evans Njewa said the meeting represents a crucial moment in the unified efforts to achieve an ambitious outcome at COP29.

YETU Community radio understands that the meeting which is been held under the theme “Uniting for 1.5°C – Aligned Climate Action and Resilient Futures,” will be attended by ministers, climate negotiators, and experts from all 45 LDCs.
