LA’S URGED TO EMBRACE INNOVATION IN WATER PROVISION

In a bid to promote access to clean and potable water, Water and Environmental Sanitation Network- WESNET Executive Director Willies Mwandira has asked District Councils that are failing to provide safe and clean water to people due to geographical challenges to adopt the use of innovative WASH systems.

Mwandira made the remarks as WESNET in collaboration with the Ministry of Water is set to host the 2024 WASH Innovation Fair in Lilongwe on Thursday and Friday this week.

According to Mwandira, the country is not doing enough to provide safe and clean water to people hence recurring waterborne diseases.

“Councils should maximize the hosting of the fair if they are to promote wash services in the councils despite geographical settings,” Mwandira said.

The WESNET Executive Director said they have organized the fair to provide the innovators with an opportunity to demonstrate innovations that foster access to clean and potable water.

“The country is struggling to provide wash services hence the need to change the approach,” added Mwandira.

The 2024 WASH Innovation Fair will be held at Crossroads Hotel under the theme “harmonizing wash efforts, for a safe reliant Malawi”
