FPAM DISTRIBUTS 24,000 CONDOMS DURING TUMAINI FESTIVAL
Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM) over the weekend distributed over 24 thousand condoms and 65 emergency pills at the Tumain festival at Dzaleka refugee camp in Dowa.
Speaking to Yetu FM FPAM Youth Action Chair in Dowa Yusuf Kaisi, the organization also distributed emergency pills, Prep, and Gentamicin serving over 6 thousand people at the festival.
Kaisi said they thought of taking Sexual Reproductive Health Services at the festival to save people from getting unwanted pregnancies as well as Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
“As you know in such events people engage in sexual activities and most of them do the act without protection, hence FPAM bringing such services closer to the people so that they should protect themselves from STIs as well as unwanted pregnancies”, Kaisi said.
He said the organization brought gentamicin which is medication for STIs to reach out to people who don’t want to go the hospital but are already infected so that they also get assisted right away at the festival.
Kaisi then said they are happy that they managed to reach out to such a huge number of people as this simply means they have saved people from unwanted pregnancies, and STIs as well as treated people who needed their services
Meanwhile, FPAM has applauded the organizers of the Tumaini Festival for providing a friendly environment that enabled them to do their work smoothly.
