DOWA POLICE STATION REGISTERS A 4% INCREASE IN SEXUAL-RELATED CASES.
Dowa police station has recorded an increase of 4 percent in sexual-related offences this year as compared to last year during the same time of the year.
Dowa police station public relations officer Alice Sitima attributed the increase in registered sexual-related cases to community awareness campaigns that the station undertook this year with assistance from a spotlight initiative, sensitizing people in Dowa district to report sexual offences to relevant authorities.
“in 2022 from January to October Dowa police recorded a total of 26 cases while this year during the same period they have recorded 27 cases which shows an increase of 4%”, she said.
“In the past year, people could not report sexual-related offences but now with the sensitization that they are being conducted, people are able to report,” said Sitima
Sitima says they are doing the work with the aim of eliminating the malpractice by sensitizing the masses on the dangers of committing such offences.
She said Dowa police is working with the spotlight initiative through its partners like NICE and CADECOM just to mention a few in sensitizing the masses on sexual offences issues.
Meanwhile, Sitima applauded people in Dowa district for reporting such cases to police saying that’s the way to go if we are to end sexual offences in the district.
