COMMUNITY WORRIED WITH COUNCIL’S DILLY-DALLY ON SCHOOL PROJECT

Residents of James Village traditional authority Chiwere have expressed disappointment with the delay in the construction of James Community Day Secondary School in their area.

Addressing an interface meeting on Wednesday organized by the National Initiative for Civic Education NICE, Group village head James expressed worry that they tried contacting council officials several times but there has not been any development.

“Apart from contacting the officials, we have also approached them at their offices, but nothing has been done,” the chief added.

Reacting on the matter vice Chairperson for Dowa District Council, Horres Madeya assured residents of Jemusi village that construction of a Community Day secondary school is still on track, citing the diversion of funds to other projects as the reason for the delay.

Madeya says the council is committed to providing quality education facilities.

Making her remarks, the Programs officer for NICE, Alinafe Chikakuda emphasized the importance of continued engagement citing she was impressed seeing community members holding duty bearers accountable.

Meanwhile, she has assured residents of their commitment to monitoring and ensuring that the council officials keep their promises.

The council’s District Development plans show that the MK23 million James Community Day Secondary School block was supposed to be constructed from June up to September 2021.

Since 2021 June residents of Jemusi village traditional authority Chiwere in Dowa district have been anxiously waiting for the construction of a Community Day Secondary school.
