CHAKWERA DESCRIBES THE 78TH UNGA MEETING AS A SUCCESS
President Lazarus Chakwera has described his trip to the 78th United Nations General Assembly in America as a milestone in his quest to lobby for financers of development activities in the country.
Speaking on Monday morning when arriving at Kamuzu International Airport, Chakwera said he held talks with foreign investors and nations who have pledged to support the country through investments.
“I was surprised because of the turnout in a meeting with those that are really willing to stand with us, in our greatest needs,” Chakwera said.
“We had other meetings concerning Malawi’s development and investment in trade with African Americans,” Chakwera added.
In his address at the Airport, Chakwera also expressed his shock over the demise of former Malawi Congress Party leader and former civil servant John Tembo.
He described Tembo’s death as a great loss saying the late Tembo highly contributed to the democratic rule the country is enjoying.
“he has not only been there as a young man when we fought for independence but he was one of those people that our founding President Kamuzu Banda entrusted,” said Chakwera.
According to the Government’s official Facebook page, while at the UNGA meeting, President Chakwera held talks with officials from Israel, Pan Africa Investors, Afrexim bank, and the United Nations among others.
President Chakwera and the Malawian delegation left the country for the 78th United Nations General Assembly on 15 September 2023.
The 78th UNGA meeting was held with the theme “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: accelerating action on the 2030 agenda and its sustainable development goals towards peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all”
